About Dr. Katie Ralston
I have spent my entire life living in small rural communities. While I appreciate and enjoy all that a big city has to offer, it’s the country lifestyle and traditions that bring me the most joy. That’s why I decided to open a veterinary clinic in Henly, TX and ditch the daily commutes into Austin. Check out our community page for a glimpse into the clinic location - it’s the coolest spot in the Texas Hill Country! My goal is to provide the best care to you and your furry companions by using integrative techniques to promote balance, comfort, and longevity in your pets in a relaxed, purposely atypical clinical setting. I want the Henly AcuVet experience to be like taking your dog or cat to visit some friends and getting veterinary care along the way. Relaxed. Non-stressful. Tailored treatment plans for each individual pet. Promoting the human-animal bond. Providing exceptional service and care. Pawsitive experiences for you and your pets.
I received my veterinary degree from the University of TN in 2008, and I immediately moved to Texas to start a career working with cattle for the USDA. After several years, I had the opportunity to move into small animal medicine doing high volume spay/neuter surgeries and low income wellness clinics. From there, I went on to participate in an equine internship, which was the whole reason for going to vet school! After a few years in the barns, I learned that small animal emergency allowed for days off to actually ride my horse, and off I went to start the most influential experience of my career to date, which was working as an ER hospitalist in a 24/7 hospital with 15 other veterinarians. As a hospitalist in an ER, I saw a variety of acute emergencies and chronic illnesses, many of which we were able to successfully treat. My team of vets and technicians were simply amazing, and I learned so much from them. However, there were some cases where all conventional western medicine treatment options were tried, and we could not get the pet adequate relief for quality of life. It was those cases that triggered me to look for alternative therapies, which led me to pursue the study of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). I have been a student at Chi University in Reddick, FL since 2022. I’ve completed studies for certification in acupuncture, food therapy, and Tui~na. These integrative techniques have given me more tools and resources to help many pets with chronic illnesses restore quality of life, as I’ve seen significant decreases in symptoms and drastic improvements in the wellness of my patients.
I am also certified in the human-animal bond and whole-heartedly believe in building and maintaining good human-animal relationships. That’s why every appointment at Henly AcuVet is scheduled for a minimum of 1 hour. It’s all about you and your pet(s). I want to discuss with you veterinary care options using my common sense approach, combining integrative and conventional techniques, in a relaxed and comfortable environment, to optimize the health of your pet(s).
